A bathroom free of limescale and mold: a practical guide

High humidity makes the bathroom the perfect place for limescale and mold. The good news: both can be solved with the right products and a little consistency.
Limescale: let the acid do the work
Limescale is a mineral deposit — it dissolves with a mild acid, not with scrubbing. Citric acid or vinegar applied to taps, the shower enclosure and tiles, left for 10 minutes, does the work for you.
A clogged shower head
Soak it overnight in a bowl of diluted vinegar. By morning the deposits loosen and water pressure returns.
Mold: treat the grout, not just the surface
Mold in grout and silicone needs a dedicated antifungal solution. Apply it, let it act, and scrub narrow areas with an old toothbrush.
Prevention makes the difference
- Ventilate after every shower — open the window or turn on the fan
- Squeegee the enclosure after use
- Don't leave damp towels piled up
- Check for hidden leaks
When it's too much
If mold has penetrated deep into the silicone, the safest fix is to replace it. Cleaning only delays the problem.
