Move-in / move-out cleaning: handing over and receiving a spotless home

Moving is stressful enough without the cleaning. But an empty home is the ideal time to clean it thoroughly — nothing is in the way.
When you leave (move-out)
A complete clean at handover boosts your chances of getting the deposit back. Landlords check exactly the areas you skip in the rush of moving.
- The inside of empty cabinets and drawers
- Furniture marks on walls and floors
- Appliances left behind (oven, fridge)
- Fully sanitized bathrooms and kitchen
When you arrive (move-in)
Before bringing in the furniture, clean everything — it is the only time you have free access to every surface. Sanitize where others lived: bathrooms, kitchen, handles, switches.
The advantage of an empty home
Without furniture, you can reach corners, skirting boards and the backs of radiators. Take advantage — once your things are in, these areas become hard to reach for months.
Don't forget the handover essentials
- Windows and sills
- Ledges and door frames
- Ventilation grilles
- Balcony and storage spaces
